Ivy Tech to train educators in robotics Print E-mail

INDIANAPOLIS—This summer Ivy Tech Community College will host Indiana Teachers Summer Robotics Workshops, giving Indiana educators the opportunity to be trained in the skills, methods and tools needed to incorporate robotics into their classrooms.

Ivy Tech technology faculty developed the workshops' curriculum in partnership with robotics industry experts Autodesk, Innovation First and other Indiana technology educators. Using a hands-on, open-ended approach, the workshops introduce attendees to a standards-based robotics curriculum with an emphasis on science, mathematics and problem solving. Attendees will also have an opportunity to apply and practice the methodology and participate in a robotics competition.

Funded by an Indiana Department of Workforce Development grant with funds and material grants from industry sponsors, the workshops are offered to teachers at no cost. Additionally teachers will leave with a robot, software and other tools to use immediately in the classroom. Ivy Tech will offer CRU credit for workshop attendance. Workshops last three days and are being held at eight Ivy Tech campuses around the state. They are scheduled for: June 11 through June 13, Evansville; June 18 through June 20, Bloomington; June 25 through June 27, Terre Haute; July 9 through July 11, Indianapolis and Anderson; July 16 through July 18, Kokomo and Lafayette; July 23 through July 25 Richmond and Sellersburg; July 30 through Aug. 1, South Bend and Valparaiso, and Aug. 6 through Aug. 8, Fort Wayne.
